A new morning began and we had a new plan. The trip was shaping beautifully and so far the kids were too well behaved and seemed to like it here. My back was again hurting a little, I was turning old after all, as my wife insisted but I still had the zest of the 25-year old Darshik who loved going to the zoo or any game park even at my age. We planned to have our breakfast in the restaurant of the hotel. The breakfast spread was quite varied and delicious and after a hearty meal, we all had a spring in our steps and we boarded our car to go to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park Mumbai.

It took about forty minutes to reach the park. Once we were in it, I could not help but remark that it seemed unusual that in the heart of such a metropolitan city, there was this park that offered the tranquil atmosphere of a jungle. Outside the park the hectic urban lifestyles threatened to eat our lives up but inside the park the animals hardly took notice of us, it was food for thought. There were numerous things to do in the park. In the Krishnagiri Upvan, inside the park, we availed the tiger safari, which took us to the interiors in hope to spot a tiger. Rahul was literally on the edge with the camera handy for any possible shots of the beast. Then we did boating in a lake, which was filled with lotuses. The park had Buddhist influences for it had the Kanheri caves within the park that gave us a glimpse of the Buddhist lifestyles. These caves looked quite ancient.

The flora and fauna of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park Mumbai was remarkable. There were various species of trees and plants in it whose names I also did not know. The park is also supposed to be a delight for bird watchers and I missed bringing my binoculars. But I enjoyed anyway with everybody and was rather overjoyed in Alpa’s delight each time when she would spot something new. I had planned the local train journey back and we had to drive to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus for the experience.
