After interesting journeys to the Palace and the Hesaraghatta Lake, our next trip was to the Nehru Planetarium. It is about 10km from the hotel. I had spoken to the planetarium authorities the previous day, to enquire about the timings of the sky theater show. The staff was courteous to give me the information. He said the show ‘Our solar system’ is available in both Kannada as well as English. The timings were 10:30am, 11:30am and 3:30pm for Kannada shows and English shows were conducted at 12:30pm and 4:30pm. The timings of the English show sounded very convenient. I planned to take my family for the 12:30 show so that we have the rest of the day for shopping and other activities.
Though it would take only 20 minutes to reach the Planetarium, Bangalore traffic can hassle you. The hotel staff asked us to leave a little early to reach on time. Our vehicle was already at the hotel at 11:00am.We left immediately and as mentioned, the vehicle moved very slowly, somehow, we managed to reach at 11:50am. All of us were excited and the campus was inviting. We had visited the Planetarium in Mumbai and the building Bangalore looked unique. As we entered the main gate, we could a large number of visitors. As this place is interesting for kids, there were many families along with children. I went to the counter and purchased entry tickets. It is only after 12:00 noon, the sky theater gates will be open for the visitors. We entered the theater and the show was about to begin.
Lights were off and all the spectators were requested to watch the sky screen. A fabulous display of our solar system enlightened all of us. The documentary in the background was so clear and simple to understand. The show lasted about an hour and then we had time to go around and see the pictures and other things on display. A huge exhibition hall had a number of exhibits of celestial bodies, and a well organized Science Park. Another interesting feature of the Planetarium is checking your weight on various planets and you have a printed slip of your weight. It seemed very interesting and my children were happy to compare their weights in different planets. We moved out and plan to have some tea and snacks…It was an entertaining and informative day!
